About
What is the Insomnia Clinic?
The Insomnia Clinic is the largest specialized insomnia service in Portugal, offering Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for insomnia (first-line treatment for this sleep disorder), Non-Attachment to Outcome Approach (one of the most recent and effective therapies for treating insomnia) and support for those suffering from this condition, with online consultations, clinical psychology and psychiatry, in Portuguese and English.
Our goal is to empower individuals suffering from insomnia to achieve restful and rejuvenating sleep patterns. We are committed to providing evidence-based care that addresses the root causes of insomnia and promotes short-, medium- and long-term sleep health and overall well-being.

History
In 2019, after a turbulent period in her life, psychologist and founder of the Clinic - Joana Maria Matos - began to suffer from insomnia. After a few months of dealing with this sleep disorder, she decided to seek specialized help through psychotherapy. With just a few sessions, she was able to overcome her insomnia, considering that she had achieved not only her normal sleep pattern but also a renewed and meaningful life.
Some time later, the insomnia seemed to want to return, but the techniques and strategies (relating to the way of thinking and acting with sleep) were very present, which meant that nights of deep and restful sleep once again replaced the sleepless and anxious nights.
The interest in delving deeper into this area led the psychologist to complete, in 2023, training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia at the University of Oxford and since then she has been focusing particularly on this area, which has provided her with a comprehensive knowledge of its complexities and challenges and which makes her confident in applying this knowledge to constantly find effective solutions for patients.
The Insomnia Clinic was created in 2024, following a partnership with Psychiatrist Diogo Mota da Silva, who also has a great interest in this area. He has dedicated himself to research and investigation in the area of insomnia due to the extensive contact in the clinic with complaints associated with these areas, which are transversal to multiple difficulties/challenges in life and not only to the situation of mental illness.
The Insomnia Clinic team understands restorative and satisfactory sleep as a fundamental step towards full physical and mental health and therefore works daily to help their patients reach this stage.
